DIRTY JOKES BY SINFUL FOLKS

Laughter is contagious, and most everyone will agree they like to laugh. I know people who are quick to lighten the mood around them, ever ready with a good joke. Always the life of a crowd, such persons most often draw attention to themselves being a personality jokester. They are politicians in many ways, seeking the blessed favor of the day.
Such is the case with proclaimed Christian American comedian, John Crist (Born March 20, 1984), via his Internet, foray extradinaire YouTube presentations. Some of his high-ranking YouTube sketches include: "Every parent at Disney", "Millennial International: Sponsor a Millennial Today", "If golf and soccer switched announcers", and "Weather Man MELTS down on live TV" (per noted Wikipedia examples), served to set the stage for a career in show business. His noted celeb openings for Jeff Foxworthy, Dave Chappelle, Seth Meyers, Tim Hawkins, and Anjelah Johnson served to foster additional clout and notoriety.
Things changed In November 2019, as Crist's sexual misconduct infractions caught up with him. Bottom line, Crist confirmed he was a sex addict. However, his confession session was not done soon enough, and Christian leadership in the know sought to look the other way for far too long. All such bad faith actions and reactions in turn caused many additional victims to mount, who were left in the wake of John Crist's growing lust and sexual addiction obsessions. As a well noted Charisma article laid bare the sad facts:
"According to multiple sources, Crist has exploited his Christian reputation and platform to harass, manipulate and exploit young women over the last seven years. The allegations include, but are not limited to, individually sexting multiple women during the same time period, initiating sexual relationships with married women and women in committed relationships, offering show tickets in exchange for sexual favors and repeatedly calling these women late at night while drunk."
So it was said, that Crist went on to get rehab help, took a break from social media and tried to reform his ways. After this brief self-reflecting time period, he went right back into, Check Your Heart, status once again, even writing a 2022 book, Delete That - (And Other Failed Attempts To Look Good Online). What we seed we feed, and what we feed upon we become - Synthia Esther. Addiction recovery is therefore a misnomer. As one's road towards mindful, spiritual renewal is a Holy Spirit inspired, lifelong battle lasting from the cradle to the grave (John 14:26).
Hypothesis: Addiction is an external response to an internal need, activated by free will.
Biblical definition of Addiction: James 1:13-15, “When tempted, no one should say 'God is tempting me.' For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone, (14) but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. (15) Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to death.”
Addiction is an uncontrollable need, obsessive desire, oppressive-escalating craving, seeking and use of a substance such as a drug or alcohol, or an activity you may compulsively indulge in, despite negative consequences. Examples include but are not limited to; alcohol, drugs, eating, gambling, gaming, cutting or sex. The mood altering latter stages of addiction produce a neurobiological long lasting chemical change within the brain.
Shifting from one addictive behavior to another also shifts neuropathway patterns.
I call the addicts denial mentality, "The Blind Mind". In his book, “Don't call it love, Recovery From Sexual Addiction,” Dr. Patrick Carnes explains; "Addictive obsession can exist in whatever generates significant mood alteration, whether it be the comfort of cutting or food, the thrill of gambling, or the excitement of sexual arousal." These maladaptive self medicating behaviors are the addicts attempt to ease past and current pain. The real source of the problem lies hidden behind the behavior manifestations.
WHAT WE LAUGH ABOUT SAYS ALOT ABOUT WHO WE ARE IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH:
There are clean jokes, and there are dirty, borderline jokes. What we laugh about says a lot about who we are in spirit and in truth. When you find yourself in the company of a person who likes to tell a dirty or off color joke (sexual, racial, attacking, derogatory, or shaming) you may want to carefully weigh the following questions:
* Should I be laughing at this joke or praying for this person's soul?
* Is sin a joke?
* Would Jesus Christ laugh at blatant sin?
MERRIMENT, GOOD WILL, AND LAUGHTER - EPHESIANS FIVE GUIDANCE AND DIRECTION
Filthiness, foolish talking, or jesting, is not funny, nor humorous to those who desire to live and walk in the light of God's love and wise counsel (Ephesians 5:3-4).
Do not be deceived, for unclean persons speaking vain, unclean words, is disobedient, and brings God's wrath (Ephesians 5:5-6). Much of what some people laugh at they should be crying over. For sin is only fun for a season (Hebrews 11:25).
For such persons living in a world of immorality and flighty, crude fun, sin and laughter, are ultimately doomed for all eternity unless they repent and give their life to Jesus Christ (John 3:16-17; Romans 10:10).
When our hearts are right with God, unclean lips fall upon the dead silence of holy, spiritual conviction. Silence, not laughter, is the response to any and all unclean activity. Imagine what would happen if you were in a crowd of sinful folks telling dirty jokes and you closed your eyes and began to whisper prayers for their souls.
If born again Christians are to be the light of the world, our actions and reactions to the world around us, speak louder than slighted words filled with vain intentions.
I once dated a professed professional, born again Christian man who, early in our relationship, laughed whole heartedly at a dirty joke said by an immediate female family member. I let his reaction pass at the time, and continued dating him, only to find this incident was a keen indicator of the future. From the abundance of the mouth the heart speaks (Luke 6:45). One must never under estimate God's wise Holy Biblical counsel! What we watch and listen to matters, including media outlets, television, Internet, and any other technological outlets filled with unholy vice.
We are literally living in a world filled with sin, which we who are born again should not desire to partake of. As we separate and sanctify our lives unto Christ Jesus our Lord, we grow in faith and the desire to be a witness for Him. When our joy and laughter stem forth from a heart dedicated to living in the flow of His favor, we are blessed!
